   आरम्भ में जो एरडोगन की सबसे बडी चाल दिख रही थी वह उनकी पहली बडी भूल में बदल गयी है। सैन्य नेतृत्व को कमजोर करने के लिये उन्होंने जिस प्रकार भयानक षडयंत्रकारी सिद्धांतों का सहारा लिया उसके चलते वे काफी निष्प्रभावी लडाकी शक्ति बन चुके हैं। सीरिया से अनागंतुक शरणार्थी तुर्की की सीमा से शहरों और उससे परे भीड जमा कर चुके हैं। तुर्क सीरिया के प्रति युद्ध नीति की बडे पैमाने पर विरोध कर रहे हैं और विशेष रूप से इसका विरोध अलेवी मजहबी समुदाय की ओर से हो रहा है जो कि तुर्की की जनसंख्या का 15 से 20 प्रतिशत हैं और सीरिया के अलावी से अलग हैं परंतु उनके साथ उनकी शिया विरासत मिलती जुलती है। असद ने बदला लेते हुए पीकेके को पुनर्जीवित कर दिया है जिसकी बढती हिंसा ने एरडोगन के लिये घरेलू समस्या खडी कर दी है। वास्तव में कुर्द लोगों ने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध की समाप्ति के उपरांत मध्य पूर्व की स्थापना पर अपना अवसर खो दिया था वे पहली बार तुर्की, सीरिया, इराक और यहाँ तक कि ईरान के भी कुछ भाग की कल्पना के साथ कुर्द राज्य को चित्रित कर पा रहे हैं।
